The Minister for Education and Sports, Janet Museveni, has asked the Ministry of Health to speed up the process of construction of the specialized teaching hospital.
This follows another directive by the President to the Health Ministry on July 12, 2023, urging the Health Ministry to speed up the construction of the 324 bed specialized teaching hospital.
Mrs. Museveni in her letter, read on Friday during the 19th graduation ceremony by the State Minister of Primary Education, Dr. Joyce Moriku Kaducu, said the hospital will be constructed by funding from the German government at 1 percent interest rate.
She added that the Hospital will help in solving the problem of referring specialized cases to Mulago Hospital, and that this will benefit the people of Northern Uganda and neighbouring Countries like South Sudan and DR. Congo.
Mrs. Museveni further said the Ministry of Education is also helping with the process of degazettement of the 20 acre piece of Land at Laroo Forest, where the Hospital will be built.
The land is currently under the National Forestry Authority and needs degazettment from Parliament of Uganda.
The Minister also urged graduates to put all their trust in God, as they go out to serve the nation through their various skills acquired at the University.
The University Chancellor Rtd. Hon. Dr. Ruhakana Rugunda in the same ceremony conferred degrees, Master-degrees, Post-graduates and Doctors of Philosophy to 1,338 students.
