In a move that reeks of desperation and dictatorial paranoia, the so-called First Son and delusional heir-apparent to Uganda’s throne, Gen. Muhoozi Kainerugaba, has orchestrated the forced retirement of Lt. Gen. Peter Elwelu—a battle-hardened commander whose only “crime” was refusing to kiss the boots of a brat in uniform. What we are witnessing is not leadership but a disgusting soap opera playing out at the very top of Uganda’s military command—where egos, not merit, dictate careers.
Lt. Gen. Elwelu, a seasoned and notoriously no-nonsense general, has been cornered into early retirement, not for incompetence or age, but because he dared to challenge Muhoozi’s infantile arrogance while President Museveni was away. According to reliable insiders, Muhoozi, the pampered prince of NRM’s collapsing empire, accused Elwelu of plotting a coup—an absurd allegation that exposes not only Muhoozi’s insecurities but also his deteriorating grasp on reality.
The now-infamous confrontation between Elwelu and Muhoozi reportedly turned into a near-fistfight, with Muhoozi hurling primitive insults, calling Elwelu a “brainless buffoon.” It is astonishing that a man being groomed to lead a nation could be so infantile, so utterly consumed by fear of being outshone. Elwelu’s true offence? Refusing to be Muhoozi’s errand boy.
This is not just a military retirement; it is a political assassination dressed in camouflage. The UPDF has been reduced to a family-controlled circus, where loyalty to the Museveni bloodline trumps patriotism, discipline, or merit. If you do not bow to Muhoozi’s bloated ego, you’re branded a threat and shoved out like garbage. Today it’s Elwelu; tomorrow it could be anyone who dares to question the mediocrity wrapped in military ranks.
The retirement list of 1,337 UPDF officers now looks more like a purge list, an ethnic and political cleansing of the army’s top brass to pave the way for Muhoozi’s unholy ascension. What began as a national defence force has now become a throne room—one where betrayal is rewarded, and honour is exiled.
The silence of President Museveni following this embarrassing saga is both deafening and damning. Instead of defending professionalism and justice within the ranks, he has chosen to protect his son’s ambitions like a coward shielding a fragile crown prince. Is Uganda’s future really in the trembling hands of a man who labels senior commanders as coup plotters for disagreeing with him?
The Elwelu incident is a national shame and a dangerous omen. Uganda is no longer under military leadership—it’s under dynastic thuggery. And if Muhoozi’s path to power is lined with lies, insults, and forced retirements, then the future of Uganda under his rule promises to be not just bleak, but utterly terrifying.
This isn’t just about Elwelu. It’s about a nation whose military has been hijacked by a childish tyrant-in-training. The UPDF deserves better. Uganda deserves better. And if Muhoozi thinks intimidation is the key to the presidency, he may soon learn that real leadership is not inherited—it is earned.
