Police flying squad unit busts car theft gang

On 03 June 2024, the Police Flying Squad unit conducted operations against motor vehicle thefts in areas of Bunamwaya, Kawempe–Kalerwe, Mukono and Ndeeba.

The operation led to the arrest of 13 suspects namely; Musinguzi Julius,  Ssemyalo Rashid,  Kasibante Stephen, Kibuuka Siraji,  Kyazze Sammy,  Bukenya Bashir, Mukasa Wamala,  Kyazze Kennedy,  Wandera John,  Lubega Jerry, 8) Nabuyondo Teddy, Bijumbuko Paul and  Anguzo Moses.

According to ACP Rusoke Kituuma, Press and Public Relations Officer Uganda Police Force, the operation also led to the recovery of the following Motor Vehicles:1) UAP 042N Noah grey 4) SSD 992BC Vitz grey, 2) UBD 592G Probox grey 5) UAX 108E Noah grey, 3) Spacio grey 6) UAX 827P Isuzu Forward, 7) UAG 608C Isuzu Forward, UAP 042N Motor vehicle, UAP 042N Noah stolen from Kumi. It was originally on Reg no. UAS043Z.

A case of aggravated robbery was investigated vide Kumi Police station ref: CRB 365/2024.

Amoit George and Taika Godfrey were arrested and remanded at Kumi prisons.

Motor vehicle UAX 827P Isuzu was stolen from Kakumiro District. It originally had reg no. UBN 736K.

“The flying squad team has managed to disorganize criminal activities by some of the gangs that operate in the Central and Western regions of Uganda. One of them is allegedly commanded by one Wandera John who is in custody,” noted ACP Rusoke.

He said there is a group that is suspected of being behind the stealing of lorries and selling them in Kampala and DRC.

“As a result, the following persons are in custody to help us with investigations into that matter; Kyazze Kennedy, Lubega Jerry, Nabuyondo Teddy, Bijumbuko Paul, Anguzo Moses and Ssekyanda Drake.”

“We implore car owners to exploit target hardening techniques for instance the installation of car trackers.”
