MOSCOW | TASS | In an interview with journalist Pavel Zarubin of All-Russia State Television and Radio Broadcasting Company, Russian President Vladimir Putin emphasized the gravity of the situation around Ukraine, characterizing it as a matter of life and death for Russia. Putin contrasted Russia’s profound concern with what he perceived as a lack of comparable concern from the West.
Putin made these remarks referring to his interview with US journalist Tucker Carlson, during which he aimed to convey the significance Russia places on everything happening in the Ukrainian direction. In Putin’s view, while the West may perceive the situation as an opportunity to improve its tactical position, for Russia, it holds existential importance.
He stated, “For them (the West – TASS) this is about improving their tactical position, but for us, this is about our destiny, a matter of life and death.” Putin expressed the desire for people, especially Russian and foreign viewers, to understand the profound impact and significance Russia attributes to events in Ukraine. The interview with Carlson, published on February 9, extensively covered the Ukrainian conflict and Russia’s relations with the US, NATO, and the broader Western community.
