Police have announced a Shs 20 million reward for anyone who will provide information leading to the arrest of the attackers and recovery of the pistol used in the shootings of vlogger Isma Olaxes and pastor Aloysius Bugingo’s bodyguard corporal Richard Muhumuza
Olaxes was gunned down on May 6, 2023, in Kyanja, while Muhumuza was allegedly shot dead on Tuesday night last week at Buwalakata road, Namungoona, Lubaga Division. Bugingo who claims to have survived with bullet wounds in the back is said to have been in the car at the time of the attack.
Both incidents occurred at about 9 pm with the attackers reportedly escaping on motorcycles. Fred Enanga, police spokesperson, highlighted the similarity in the attacks and the shared use of the pistol in both incidents.
“There are very similar patterns in the murder of Richard Muhumuza and Isma Olaxes,” he said.
At least 13 bullets were retrieved from Muhumuza’s body. The attacked vehicle has at least 11 visible bullet holes and has been submitted for forensic and ballistic examinations. CCTV footage from Salt TV, Bujjingo’s departure point with Muhumuza, along with security cameras on roads and private buildings, is being reviewed to track the attackers’ movements.
Despite social media speculation on the motives, the police says they’re remaining focused on the investigation without being swayed by unrelated narratives.
The director of the Criminal Investigations Directorate (CID) has assigned the Special Investigations Division (SID) to lead the investigation into Muhumuza’s murder. Meanwhile, the army has taken over security at Bugingo’s business entities and home in Wakiso.
