Detective Sergeant Ngabirano Protasi, attached to Nsangi Police Station, has been arraigned before the Chief Magistrate’s Court in Makindye on serious charges of destroying evidence and conspiracy to obstruct justice.

The charges were brought by the Anti-Corruption Unit at State House Uganda in collaboration with the Criminal Investigations Directorate (CID) and the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions (ODPP).

The allegations relate to an incident in January 2025, where Sgt. Ngabirano, along with others still at large, is accused of conspiring to falsely implicate a man named Richard Sewanonda in an aggravated robbery case.

According to the charge sheet, Sgt. Ngabirano deliberately removed a key witness statement from an official police file held at Katwe Police Station in Makindye Division, Kampala, and replaced it with a fabricated statement that implicated Sewanonda.

Further investigations revealed that Sgt. Ngabirano was working with other parties aiming to unlawfully dispose of Sewanonda’s contested land while Sewanonda remained imprisoned.

This case highlights ongoing efforts by Uganda’s anti-corruption and justice institutions to hold law enforcement officials accountable and ensure the integrity of the justice system.
