President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni is set to deliver the State of the Nation Address (SONA) today, June 5, 2025, at 2:00 PM, in fulfillment of his constitutional mandate under Article 101(1) of the Constitution of the Republic of Uganda.
The highly anticipated address will be broadcast live on all radio and television stations across the country, enabling millions of Ugandans to follow the President’s annual update on the country’s progress, policy priorities, and national challenges.
The State of the Nation Address traditionally marks the opening of a new session of Parliament, and it provides an overview of government performance in the past year while setting the agenda for the months ahead.
Key topics expected in this year’s address include: Economic performance and recovery under the Parish Development Model and other stimulus programs, Youth employment and vocational skills training, Security and regional stability amid ongoing threats and global tensions, Healthcare infrastructure, including updates on pandemic preparedness and high-tech investments such as the new MRI scanner at Kisubi Hospital, Education, with possible reference to the ongoing Baseline Education Census and Energy, oil, and infrastructure development, particularly as Uganda prepares for oil production by 2025–2026.
Political analysts and citizens alike are keen to hear how the government plans to address persistent concerns around cost of living, corruption, and climate change impacts, especially in light of recent floods and crop failures in several districts.
This year’s address also comes at a time when Uganda is preparing for critical regional engagements, including its role in the East African Community and continental efforts under the Africa Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA).
The public is encouraged to tune in to local radio and television stations or follow official government digital platforms for real-time updates and the full text of the President’s speech.
