Karamoja, Uganda – Joint security forces successfully conducted two operations in Kotido and Nabilatuk districts, recovering stolen cattle and addressing rising insecurity in the region.
On February 28, 2025, security forces tracked and recovered seven stolen cows that had been taken by suspected Jie warriors from Mr. Aduku Angela’s grazing area in Kalonglomuge. The operation led to the interception of the stolen livestock in Lokomebu, with security engaging the suspected rustlers. One warrior was put out of action, while another was lynched by a mob.
Nabilatuk: Investigation into Unidentified Bodies
Meanwhile, in Nabilatuk, authorities are investigating the discovery of two unidentified bodies found in grazing areas in Morungabel and Welthunger village on the same day. Initial reports suggest the incident involved Pokot individuals with kraals in Morungabel. Three Karamojong individuals were abducted, with one managing to escape while the other two were later found dead.
Security Forces Urge Vigilance
Authorities have urged residents to report any suspicious activities linked to cattle theft or violence to the Uganda Police Force (UPF), the Uganda People’s Defence Forces (UPDF), or local authorities. They also discouraged acts of mob justice, reiterating their commitment to ensuring safety and security for all communities in Karamoja.
Investigations are ongoing, and security forces remain on high alert to curb further incidents of cattle rustling and inter-communal violence.
