The International Peace Support Operations Training Centre, Singo, has joined hands with the community of Kapeeka Town Council to clean the area as part of the Tarehe Sita celebrations.
The exercise, led by Maj Edson Muheirwoha, the centre’s head of Civil-Military Cooperation saw Uganda Peoples’ Defence Forces personnel, local leaders, and students from Kapeeka Secondary School clean the town, including Kapeeka Hospital and its surroundings.
Speaking during the exercise, Mr. Ssenfuma Moses Salongo, the LC3 Chairperson of Kapeeka Sub-county, expressed his gratitude to the UPDF for taking the initiative to help manage the growing waste problem in the rapidly expanding town.
“We have been struggling with a lot of garbage due to the increasing population, especially with the development of the industrial park. The careless dumping of waste has been a major challenge, but with the UPDF’s help, we can now have some relief,” said Ssenfuma.
He further commended the UPDF for fostering strong cooperation with the public, emphasizing that the army has transformed into a true “people’s force” with a high level of professionalism, unlike past regimes.
The cleanup initiative is part of the UPDF’s ongoing efforts to strengthen civil-military relations and promote environmental hygiene in communities.
