Uganda under Yoweri Museveni has once again proven its cowardice, despotism, and utter disdain for the rule of law. The saga surrounding Martha Karua’s application for a temporary practicing certificate highlights the regime’s desperation to suppress dissent, distort justice, and protect its crumbling empire. After denying her initial application on frivolous grounds, including the ludicrous claim of Lukwago’s KCCA email being misused, the Law Council exposed itself as nothing more than a puppet of the dictator. The approval of her second application is too little, too late, and reeks of international pressure rather than genuine integrity.
Museveni’s regime is terrified of Martha Karua. Why else would they abduct Dr. Kiiza Besigye and Hajj Obed Kamuregeya, drag them across borders like common criminals, and dump them in a kangaroo military court? This paranoid government cannot stomach the prospect of seasoned legal minds tearing apart their fabricated charges. Karua’s arrival, backed by over 100 lawyers, signals the beginning of Museveni’s nightmare. The General Court Martial is nothing but a charade designed to humiliate and intimidate, yet the regime knows its time is running out.
The abductions and charges against Besigye and Kamuregeya are laughable, a transparent attempt to silence voices of reason and patriotism. Threatening national peace? Subversion activities? Museveni is the true subversive, clinging to power for nearly four decades by crushing opposition, rigging elections, and deploying his military thugs to terrorize citizens. His government has raped Uganda of its dignity and plunged its people into poverty, while his cronies fatten their wallets. If anyone threatens national peace, it is the man who has turned Uganda into his private playground.
The rejection of Karua’s first application exposed the Law Council’s true colors: spineless lackeys eager to please the dictator. The backlash was justified. How dare they deny a respected Kenyan advocate her rightful place in court while they permit the regime’s stooges to masquerade as lawyers? Even the Kenya Law Council threatened revenge, a damning indictment of Museveni’s disastrous diplomatic legacy. The eventual approval of Karua’s application only underscores the council’s hypocrisy and cowardice. They buckled under pressure, proving they are incapable of impartiality.
Isaac Ssemakadde’s statement hit the nail on the head: this fiasco is an opportunity to expose the rot in Uganda’s legal system. Yet his diplomatic language cannot mask the bitter truth – the regime doesn’t care about fairness, transparency, or justice. Museveni’s tyranny thrives on manipulating every institution to serve his selfish interests. The Ugandan people are mere pawns in his grand scheme of perpetual power.
As Karua prepares to lead the defense team in court, Museveni’s regime trembles. This is not just a legal battle; it is a fight for Uganda’s soul. But let it be known: no matter how many lawyers they intimidate, how many activists they abduct, or how many lies they tell, the end is near. Museveni’s empire of corruption will crumble, and when it does, history will remember Karua, Besigye, and Kamuregeya as symbols of resistance, courage, and justice.
The dictator’s days are numbered. Tick tock.
