Andrew Mwenda’s observations serve as a sharp and necessary wake-up call to the Ugandan populace. For nearly four decades, Yoweri Museveni has presided over a regime of unparalleled tyranny, leaving Uganda battered, broken, and bereft of hope. His grip on power, now reinforced by age-old tricks of manipulation and suppression, has transformed him into nothing less than a national parasite—feeding on the very lifeblood of a nation yearning for progress.
At 80, Museveni clings to power like a deranged autocrat unwilling to confront his own obsolescence. His so-called vision of a thriving middle class is a grotesque lie—a hollow declaration meant to distract Ugandans while he and his cronies pillage the nation’s coffers. A middle class requires a foundation of stable infrastructure, access to education, a functional healthcare system, and economic opportunities. Under Museveni, none of these essentials exist. Instead, his administration has engineered an economy drowning in debt, riddled with corruption, and suffocated by nepotism.
Mwenda’s comparison of Bugolobi’s roads to the ruins of war-torn Mogadishu could not be more apt. The craters that pass for roads in Uganda’s cities are an emblem of Museveni’s failed leadership. Infrastructure projects, which should be the backbone of economic growth, have been reduced to avenues for looting public funds. Billions vanish into the pockets of his corrupt acolytes, leaving Ugandans to contend with a reality where roads, water, and electricity remain luxuries instead of basic rights.
The deeper tragedy lies in Museveni’s iron grip on the nation’s institutions. Uganda’s 529 Members of Parliament are nothing but spineless enablers, bowing to his whims while ignoring the plight of their constituents. Ministers and permanent secretaries exist solely to amplify his authoritarian rule, ensuring that corruption thrives while accountability remains nonexistent. These so-called leaders have betrayed their oaths of service, aligning themselves with a dictator who thrives on the oppression of his people.
Museveni’s propaganda portrays him as the father of the nation, but he is, in fact, its executioner. His reign has been marked by the systematic erosion of democracy, the brutal silencing of dissent, and the obliteration of human rights. Under his rule, Uganda has become a nation where opposition voices are met with bullets, and freedom of expression is buried under a mountain of fear. Museveni has transformed Uganda into his personal empire, with loyalty bought through bribes and dissent punished with brutality.
It is time for Ugandans to recognize Museveni for what he is—a tyrant of unparalleled greed and cruelty. He is a relic of a bygone era, whose legacy will forever be defined by corruption, oppression, and betrayal. The dream of a prosperous, united Uganda cannot coexist with Museveni’s despotic rule.
Uganda’s future demands action. The people must rise, resist, and dismantle this oppressive regime. Museveni’s reign must end—not tomorrow, not someday, but now. The nation’s survival depends on it.
