In the aftermath of the physical confrontation that shook Parliament on November 6, 2024, Hon. Anthony Akol has demanded an apology from fellow MP Zaake Francis, stating that Zaake is young enough to be his son. The altercation, which erupted during a debate on the rationalization of the Uganda Coffee Development Authority (UCDA), left Zaake injured and hospitalized. However, Akol maintains that his actions were justified.
“I had no choice but to discipline him,” Akol declared in a heated response to the scuffle. “Zaake should apologize to me. He’s younger than my children and should show respect. I had to teach him a lesson,” Akol insisted, defending his actions as a matter of principle.
The clash began when Zaake allegedly pushed Akol and called him derogatory names. Explaining his side, Akol said, “If you poke a sleeping lion, you can’t be surprised when it wakes up. I was sitting peacefully, and Zaake started insulting me. He got what he deserved.”
Zaake, who was discharged from Nsambya Hospital on November 8, has vowed to take legal action against Akol, accusing him of recurrent aggressive behavior towards fellow MPs. “This is not the first time Akol has acted this way, and it’s time someone stood up to him,” Zaake said, confirming that he has already filed legal papers to bring Akol to court.
As this drama unfolds, political observers closely monitor how these actions will impact the reputations of both MPs as the 2026 elections approach.
