President Yoweri Museveni’s recent remarks at the International Youth Day celebrations in Soroti are nothing more than a vile display of his chronic deception. His hollow exhortations for the youth to combat corruption through so-called “proper channels” is a sickening joke, considering his regime has ruthlessly crushed any genuine avenues for accountability. Museveni, who has ruthlessly clung to power for nearly four decades, preaches about fighting corruption while presiding over one of the most corrupt, morally bankrupt governments in Africa. This is an insult to the intelligence and dignity of every Ugandan.
Museveni’s absurd suggestion that corruption can be swiftly eradicated if only the facts are brought to light is a grotesque oversimplification. Corruption in Uganda is not a minor inconvenience; it is a cancer that has metastasized throughout every level of his government. This cancer thrives on Museveni’s patronage system, where sycophants are rewarded for their loyalty rather than their competence or integrity. His empty rhetoric does nothing to address the deep-seated rot that he himself has cultivated over decades.
His call for the implementation of free education is nothing but a cruel mockery. The Universal Primary Education (UPE) program, which was once touted as a beacon of hope, has been systematically destroyed by his regime’s chronic underfunding and neglect. Museveni’s laughable claim that Ugandans have resisted implementing free education is a blatant deflection from his government’s colossal failures. The reality is that his administration has consistently chosen to divert funds into the pockets of a corrupt elite, leaving the education system to crumble.
Museveni’s self-serving anecdote about his supposedly humble beginnings, where he claims to have learned the value of hard work and wealth creation, is a bitter pill for today’s youth to swallow. His nostalgic tale is a cold slap in the face to millions of Ugandans who are suffocating under the weight of unemployment, poverty, and despair. While Museveni waxes poetic about his past, today’s youth are condemned to a future devoid of opportunities, trapped in an economy suffocated by his regime’s corruption and mismanagement.
The President’s babble about the four principles of the National Resistance Movement (NRM)—Patriotism, Pan-Africanism, Socio-economic Transformation, and Democracy—is nothing more than a cruel farce. Under his tyrannical rule, patriotism has been twisted into blind obedience to a dictator, Pan-Africanism is an empty slogan, socio-economic transformation is a distant mirage, and democracy is a tragic joke.
Museveni’s regime is a masterclass in deceit, corruption, and betrayal. His latest speech is just another chapter in the vile saga of a ruler who has long overstayed his welcome, continuing to drag Uganda into an abyss of despair. The youth of Uganda deserve more than the lies and failures of a leader who has shamelessly betrayed them.
