In the murky waters of Ugandan politics, Bobi Wine’s recent antics have revealed a disturbing trend—his shameless exploitation of Buganda’s monarchy for political gain. His audacious demands for the Kabaka’s whereabouts, cloaked in a facade of concern, have only served to expose his real intentions: to sow discord and further his agenda at any cost, even if it means undermining the very cultural institutions he claims to respect.

Wine’s call for his supporters to demand the Kabaka’s whereabouts “with humility” is nothing more than a thinly veiled attempt to disguise his disrespect. It is a classic example of speaking out of both sides of his mouth, trying to stir the pot while simultaneously pretending to be the voice of reason. The Kabaka, a symbol of unity and cultural pride for the Baganda people, is not a pawn in the petty games of politicians. Yet, Wine’s reckless rhetoric has dragged the monarchy into the mud, disrespecting not only the Kabaka but also the traditions and values of Buganda.

His statements reek of hypocrisy. While he pretends to have a “good relationship” with the Kabaka, his actions tell a different story. The truth is that Bobi Wine has shamelessly exploited the Kabaka’s recent absence to rally support from his base, knowing full well that it stokes the flames of discontent. His attempts to paint himself as a defender of Buganda are laughable; in reality, he is merely using the Kingdom as a stepping stone for his political ambitions.

The Kabaka’s warning against those who undermine the Kingdom could not have been clearer, and it is evident that Wine falls squarely into this category. His divisive tactics are not only dangerous but also a betrayal of the very people he claims to represent. Instead of fostering unity, he is driving a wedge between the Kingdom and its people, all for the sake of political mileage.

Charles Peter Mayiga’s rebuke of Wine’s antics was both timely and necessary. The Kabaka is not “a street kid” to be dragged into the dirty games of politicians. Mayiga’s words serve as a stark reminder of the respect and reverence that should be accorded to the monarchy—something that Bobi Wine has clearly forgotten in his quest for power.

In the end, Bobi Wine’s actions reveal a disturbing willingness to sacrifice Buganda’s cultural integrity for his own gain. It is a betrayal of the highest order, and the people of Buganda must see through his charade before it is too late.
