Uganda’s political landscape has seen its fair share of corrupt leaders, but Anita Among’s latest stunt pushes the boundaries of deception and arrogance. Her decision to relocate parliamentary sessions from Kampala to Gulu is nothing but a desperate attempt to divert attention from her disgraceful leadership. This charade of decentralization is a feeble cover-up for the avalanche of corruption scandals and international sanctions that have exposed her as a disgrace to Uganda’s governance.
Let’s strip away the facade—Among’s true agenda has nothing to do with regional empowerment. It is about hiding her incompetence and avoiding the mounting calls for accountability. The obscene Shs5 billion per session expenditure is a grotesque insult to Ugandans who are crushed under the weight of economic hardship. Yet, this Speaker has the audacity to indulge in such extravagance, all for the sake of her bloated ego and unchecked greed.
Joel Ssenyonyi, the Leader of the Opposition, has rightly condemned this wasteful spending. However, his voice is drowned out by the sycophantic MPs from northern Uganda, who blindly defend Among’s reckless move. They regurgitate lies about economic benefits, ignoring the irreversible damage being inflicted on Uganda’s democratic fabric. Gulu’s fleeting economic boost pales in comparison to the long-term devastation that Among’s corrupt leadership continues to wreak.
On the international stage, Among’s reputation is in free fall. The sanctions from the UK and the US have left her isolated, turning Uganda’s parliament into an international embarrassment. This is not leadership—it is a farce, a testament to the depths of depravity to which Uganda’s political standards have plummeted under Among’s toxic influence.
Among has cunningly manipulated parliamentary rules to shield herself from the growing storm of criticism. Her tenure is a cesspool of corruption, scandals, and moral bankruptcy. The looming censure motions and brewing protests are merely the tip of the iceberg. Yet, she remains defiant, clinging to power with the desperate grip of a leader who knows her time is running out.
By moving parliament to Gulu, Among has only confirmed her desperation and fear of accountability. Uganda deserves far better than this circus of deceit. The coming weeks will determine whether the people of Uganda will finally rid themselves of this parasite that has drained the nation’s resources and integrity. Anita Among’s time is up, and the writing is on the wall—Uganda will no longer tolerate her reign of corruption and deceit.
