When you return from Moncton and find your elderly dog sipping from the toilet, you know something’s up. That’s exactly what happened after we dropped off the kids for their flight back to Toronto. Theodore, Tasha’s beloved pooch (and, let’s face it, a member of our extended family), was clearly not his usual self.
“Why, Theodore?” I asked with a chuckle, “are you drinking from the toilet instead of your fancy water dish?” His mournful gaze seemed to answer, “I miss my siblings. I’m not hungry. Plus, the toilet water is way colder and more exciting than what you serve in my bowl.”
Theodore’s been sulking all day, and it got me thinking. As dogs age, their emotional bonds only seem to grow stronger. It’s tough when beloved family members come and go, leaving him behind each time. You can almost hear him sighing, “Another goodbye? Really?”
So, to cheer up our old buddy, tonight’s menu is fit for royalty—chicken livers, beef tongue, hearts, and kidneys. And just for good measure, a can of beer to top it all off. After all, what’s a little indulgence when you’re past your prime?
Even our four-legged friends deserve a bit of pampering when they’re feeling down. If that means a splash of toilet water and a gourmet feast, then why not? Sometimes, the little things make all the difference, and if it brightens Theodore’s day, that’s all that matters!
