The Territorial Police in Greater Bushenyi and Buhweju CPS, are investigating circumstances under which Hon. Mwijukye Francis, MP Buhweju Constituency, was attacked and injured while responding to a land conflict on 12.05.2024 at 3:30 pm at Nyakishana Sub-county.

The Hon. MP had obtained a complaint from churchgoers at Rwanyamabare Catholic Church and other members of Rwamabare Farmers Association, who claimed their church was at risk of removal/demolition, by Kamugisha Frank, a neighbour with whom they are in dispute over the church land.

At the scene, the Hon. MP was by a rival group, armed with sticks. During the violent confrontation, the Hon. MP sustained serious injuries to the head and was rushed to Nsiika Health Centre 4, by police, for medical treatment.

The public should know that legislators are representatives of their constituents and shoulder the responsibility of Parliament. Therefore, any threat of violence against legislators is an attack on the core of our democracy.

These acts of impunity against our legislators will not be tolerated.

“We are actively investigating the matter and will ensure the perpetrators are brought to book,” SCP Enanga Fred, Police Spokesperson.
