March 17, 2024 (SENNAR) — Authorities in Sennar state have mobilized troops affiliated with the Police Central Reserve to bolster the army’s efforts to reclaim control of the central Sudanese state of Al Jazirah from the Rapid Support Forces (RSF).

Traditionally uninvolved in the conflict, the police departed from their usual stance when Central Reserve units were sighted in downtown Khartoum.

Sennar Governor Tawfig Mohamed addressed the forces en route to Wad Madani, the capital of neighbouring Al-Jazirah State, on Sunday. Notably, the RSF captured this city without encountering resistance late last year.

Governor Mohamed stated that the Central Reserve Forces’ extensive training and experience have been instrumental in maintaining order, and their presence will make a significant difference on the battlefield.

He warned that the Central Reserve Forces will enter the Al Jazirah state alongside the army, using force if necessary. Their presence will be a formidable challenge for the RSF.

The Central Reserve Forces, known for their experience in countering armed groups in Darfur and parts of Kordofan, bring a wealth of combat expertise to the ongoing conflict.

Governor Mohamed warned that the Central Reserve Forces’ extensive training and experience in combatting armed groups in Darfur and Kordofan will make a significant difference on the battlefield.

The Sudanese army has encircled Al-Jazirah state, along with Sennar, Gadarif, and White Nile provinces. Military leaders are gearing up for a large-scale offensive against RSF combatants in the state.”
