The Federation of Uganda Football Associations (FUFA) has officially announced the participation of the Uganda U20 men’s national team, commonly known as the Uganda Hippos, in the upcoming ‘Dire Cup’ Invitational Football Tournament in Ethiopia.
Scheduled to take place from the 24th to the 28th of February 2024, the tournament is strategically organized to mark the inauguration of Ethiopia’s newly constructed Dire Dawa International Stadium.
Comprising a four-team lineup, the ‘Dire Cup’ will see Uganda, along with hosts Ethiopia, Kenya, and Djibouti, battling it out in Dire Dawa City.
FUFA’s Communications Director, Ahmed Hussein, has confirmed that the team is set to depart this Wednesday, February 21, 2024, with Uganda’s opening fixture scheduled for Friday.
Hussein further disclosed that the team will don Gofere-branded kits throughout the tournament. These kits, exclusively designed for the men’s and women’s U20 teams, will be utilized during the upcoming All Africa Games in Ghana.
“The Gofere-branded kits will be used exclusively from now until the conclusion of the All Africa Games period. The Hippos team has already incorporated these kits into their training sessions. We are pleased that this tournament provides a valuable opportunity to fine-tune the men’s team before their departure to Accra,” stated Ahmed Hussein.
In a broader context, Uganda is gearing up to send two football teams, the Uganda Hippos and the Queen Cranes, to participate in the All Africa Games hosted in Ghana.
