Ugandan security forces have apprehended a suspected collaborator associated with the Allied Democratic Forces (ADF) rebel group, as confirmed in a statement released this Monday afternoon by police spokesperson Fred Enanga. The arrest transpired in the Hima Division of the Kasese District in western Uganda.

Enanga reported, “Peter Akugizibwe, also known as Suliman, was detained by the joint counter-terrorism task force comprising intelligence and counter-terrorism units.”

He underscored that Akugizibwe was allegedly employed as a subcontractor for True North Company Limited in the cement production department of Hima Cement.

Authorities have suspicions that Akugizibwe provided material support to the ADF, an Ugandan Islamist rebel group operating in the eastern Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC). Enanga specified, “Akugizibwe was under investigation and surveillance by the joint anti-terror task team prior to his arrest. A search of his premises yielded evidential material.”

The ADF has been accused of detonating bombs in Uganda and orchestrating assassinations of high-profile individuals in the country.

Ugandan forces are closely collaborating with their Congolese counterparts to combat the ADF movement in North Kivu.

Enanga emphasized, “The collaborative effort between the joint anti-terror task force and territorial teams in the Rwenzori region resulted in the successful disruption of the plans of individuals supporting the ADF terror organization.”
