February 19, 2024 (PORT SUDAN) – Legal rights group Emergency Lawyers condemned the Sudanese army’s airstrikes on Hamrat al-Sheikh, North Kordofan, calling them “inhumane” and “war crimes.”
Their statement on Monday decried the “tenth bombing in eight months” with explosive barrels, claiming civilian casualties and disrupting the local hospital. They emphasized the lack of military targets in the area, reiterating it’s devoid of “any military activity or manifestations.”
Local sources, however, suggest the airstrikes targeted a gathering of Rapid Support Forces affiliated with Commander Al-Safna.
This contradicts Emergency Lawyers’ previous report in January, claiming seven air raids on residential areas, markets, and water resources, resulting in civilian casualties and displacement.
The ongoing conflict in North Kordofan raises concerns about civilian safety and potential war crimes. Independent investigations are crucial to determine the accuracy of conflicting reports and hold perpetrators accountable.
