The cabinet was sworn in on Friday, February 23, 2024, during the ongoing two-day workshop on alternative budget priorities at the Imperial Hotel.

The new opposition shadow cabinet in parliament has officially commenced its duties in the second half of the 11th parliament.

The leader of the opposition (LOP), Joel Ssenyonyi, urged the shadow ministers to be the voices of the people, as they represent the public. He emphasized that the public is counting on them.

Ssenyonyi also pledged to hold the government accountable at any cost. He stated that the Shadow Cabinet plans to visit Lubowa Hospital to assess its progress and demand accountability, despite allegations of heavy security.

The National Unity Platform (NUP), the leading opposition party, announced the new shadow cabinet following the conclusion of the term of the first cabinet under the stewardship of Mathias Mpuuga.

According to parliamentary rules, the opposition has the prerogative to change its leadership structures after the first half of the present parliament’s tenure.
