The Directorate of Crime Intelligence (DCI) and Mukono Central Police Station have apprehended Sabiiti Kaporonyo, a 48-year-old hacker. Kaporonyo came under scrutiny after multiple mobile money dealers and civilians reported unauthorized withdrawals from their SIM cards spanning over a month.
Crime Intelligence and Mukono Police authorities initiated a tracking operation, observing that the perpetrator consistently concluded each transaction in Namugongo. It is alleged that Kaporonyo illicitly withdrew over 50 million Shillings by hacking into the mobile money systems of agents in Mukono, Jinja, Misindye, Kiira division, Kinoni, and Nagalama.
The accused attempted to avoid detection by customizing his car registration plates. However, an immediate search resulted in the recovery of four Airtel lines and a hacking machine, according to a report by DCI operatives.
Fred Enanga, the Police Spokesperson, identified Kaporonyo’s impounded white Toyota Harrier with a fake number plate (UBD 612P). Enanga affirmed the commitment of Joint Security Agencies to locate, investigate, expose, and disrupt criminals who harm innocent business persons.
Simultaneously, the Kira Road Police Division is actively pursuing a man suspected of murdering his female partner at Silent Kireka Guest House in Kireka B zone, Kira Municipality, around 7 pm last Saturday. The suspect, who registered under the name Mike Bilinengo and paid 5,000 shillings, fled the scene before the crime’s discovery.
Around 11 pm, the lodge attendant found the room open, with lights on, revealing a deceased woman lying face down across the bed, blood oozing from her nose. Detectives noted the suspect’s swift escape and discovered the victim’s handbag empty. After thoroughly documenting the crime scene, the body was transported to Mulago Morgue.
