Hon. Juliet Kinyamatama, Rakai Woman MP, has urged the Parliament’s Rules Committee to expel Francis Zaake, the legislator for Mityana Municipality, from Parliament for the remaining two and a half years of the 11th parliament session. She has also called for Zaake to undergo a mental examination.
During a committee meeting on February 13, 2024, Kinyamatama accused Zaake of referring to her as a sex worker during his visit to Rakai district on Independence Day the previous year. She argued that such language is derogatory and unacceptable, especially towards women.
“My prayers are that Hon. Zaake be subjected to a thorough mental examination at any of the national mental facilities to ascertain the mental state of the member given his conduct in and out of parliament. Hon. Zaake must be suspended from Parliament, all its premises, and the rest of the session for the 11th Parliament,” Kinyamatama stated.
Kinyamatama emphasized that Zaake’s comments have subjected her to public mockery, hatred, and ridicule. Last year, Deputy Speaker of Parliament, Thomas Tayebwa, played a recorded video in Parliament showing Zaake allegedly making derogatory remarks against Kinyamatama, leading to a heated controversy.
In response to the committee session, Zaake commented on social media, expressing his lack of surprise at Kinyamatama’s request for his expulsion from Parliament. He asserted his commitment to standing for the truth, even if it means facing persecution.
Zaake, along with his legal team, has raised concerns about the impartiality of the Parliament committee investigating the matter, claiming bias in favor of Kinyamatama. In 2022, Zaake was temporarily suspended from his role as a commissioner in Parliament after allegedly making statements that were considered disrespectful to the Speaker, Anita Annet Among. However, he was later reinstated through a court order.
