King Charles III, formerly known as The Prince of Wales, became King on the death of his mother Queen Elizabeth II on 8 September 2022.

The royal family did not specify the type of cancer but quickly added that “His Majesty has today commenced a schedule of regular treatments, during which time he has been advised by doctors to postpone public-facing duties.”
Throughout this period, King Charles will continue to undertake State business and official paperwork as usual.

Hospital
BBC reported that King Charles returned to London from Sandringham in Norfolk on Monday morning and the palace says he has commenced treatment as an outpatient.
Although he will pause his public events, the King will continue with his constitutional role as head of state, including paperwork and private meetings.
There is a constitutional mechanism for when the head of state is unable to carry out official duties – in that circumstance “counselors of state” can be appointed to stand in for the monarch.
At present that includes Queen Camilla, Prince William, Princess Anne and Prince Edward, with Prince Harry and Prince Andrew no longer to be called on as non-working royals.
“The King is grateful to his medical team for their swift intervention, which was made possible thanks to his recent hospital procedure,” said Buckingham Palace.
“He remains wholly positive about his treatment and looks forward to returning to full public duty as soon as possible.”
At the age of 75, King Charles is now the sixth-oldest British monarch in history, behind Elizabeth II, Victoria, George III, Edward VIII and George II.
The Prince’s mother was proclaimed Queen Elizabeth II at the age of 25, when her father, King George VI, died aged 56 on 6 February 1952.
On The Queen’s accession to the throne, Prince Charles – as the Sovereign’s eldest son – became heir apparent at the age of three.
