• NEC 0-3 KCCA

A brace from Muhammad Shaban alongside Ashraf Mugume’s second half strike were enough to see KCCA return to winning ways and avenge a first leg 2-0 defeat to NEC in the Uganda Premier League on Wednesday.

The game played under the floodlights of the Phillip Omondi Stadium saw the Cityzens consolidate the 9th place on 26 points.

With the two sharing the same stadium, it was a perfect result for the landlords, who had lost 1-0 to Kitara at home last week.

The night football fiesta saw tenants NEC register their sixth defeat of the season, having won nine and drawn the other four, to stay fourth on 31 points.

KCCA opened the padlock after 10 minutes through Shaban, who brilliantly connected the ball home with a classic finish, after NEC’s Ibrahim Kiyemba failed to deal with Joao Gabriel’s lofted-in ball from the center.

Shaban, doubled the advantage four minutes to half time, after meeting NEC’s Shamir Kimwero’s intended back pass and whipping it at the back of the net with the outside of his right boot – a short he took from outside the 18-yard-box.

Doubling the advantage meant that Shaban took his goal tally to 11 on the scorer’s chart to level with Soltilo Bright Stars’ Nelson Senkatuka.

For the third goal, Brazilian Joao Gabriel and Mugume combined well after 55 minutes, when the former cleverly lifted the ball over NEC’s high line and the latter ventured from the center with a reflex counter attack that ended in goal with a fine finishing.

Brazilian Joao Gabriel Esteves was named the eventual man of the match.

On Saturday, March 9, 2024, NEC will pay a visit to Gaddafi FC in Jinja for Matchday 20 action. But for KCCA, they will take a lengthy break before playing Vipers Sports Club on Friday, 15th at the St Mary’s Stadium in Kitende on Matchday 21.
