A total of 1,338 students are poised to graduate from Gulu University during its 19th Graduation ceremony scheduled for Friday, February 9, 2024.

Professor George Openjuru Ladaah, the Vice Chancellor of Gulu University, revealed that although they initially cleared 1,414 students, some had retakes and were yet to complete their research, leading to the final count of 1,338 students.

In terms of gender distribution, Professor Openjuru specified that 58.1% of the Graduands will be male, while 41.1% will be female graduates. Notably, three students will receive Doctorate of Philosophy (PhDs), and 96 students will graduate from the faculty of Medicine.

Emphasizing the importance of prioritizing girls’ education, Professor Openjuru urged parents and development stakeholders to address the existing disparity between male and female graduates.

Professor David Okello Owiny, the Deputy Vice Chancellor in charge of Academics, assured journalists that all transcripts for graduating students are prepared and can be collected at any time. Furthermore, the University plans to recognize the best-performing male and female students with the Vice Chancellor’s Awards.

The graduation ceremony, set to be presided over by the University Chancellor, Rtd. Hon. Dr. Ruhakana Rugunda, will have the State Minister of Primary Education, Dr. Joyce Moriku Kaducu, as the guest of honor.

Established in 2003 by the government, Gulu University has seen over 20,000 students graduate since its inception.
