Power distributor, Umeme, has announced that it will be commencing upgrades for all Yaka meters to meet the global metering standards.
The exercise is intended to upgrade the software of Yaka meters to ensure compatibility with latest vending standards, improve customer vending experience and enhance system security and token recognition.
“The process upgrades the software of the Yaka meter to ensure compatibility with latest vending system. This will improve the customer vending experience, enhance system security and token recognition,” Umeme said in a statement.
Customers scheduled for the upgrade will receive three tokens to key in the Yaka meter and an upgrade message shall display once this is done.
Umeme has reassured customers and stakeholders that it will complete the upgrade on time and have a seamless experience in the upgrade process.
“We would like to reassure our customers and stakeholders of our plans to ensure the completion of the project on time and a seamless experience in the upgrade process,” UMEME added.
The Minister of Energy Ruth Nankabirwa said last week that the current prepaid electricity meters would stop operating on November 24, 2024 and that they would be upgraded. She also revealed that the electricity tariff has been reduced to facilitate competitiveness in the manufacturing.
