Sudanese civilian coalition to meet with RSF leader in Addis Ababa

December 31, 2023 (KHARTOUM) – The Sudanese pro-civilian Coordination of Civil Democratic Forces (Taqaddum) will convene with Rapid Support Forces (RSF) Chief Mohamed Hamdan Daglo in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, on Monday, January 1, 2024.

In a statement released on Sunday, the coalition announced that its delegation will be headed by former Prime Minister and Tagaddum Chairman Abdallah Hamdok.

“The meeting aims to address pressing issues related to protecting civilians, facilitating humanitarian aid delivery, and exploring pathways towards a peaceful resolution of the ongoing conflict in Sudan,” the statement reads.

The meeting follows a series of letters sent by Taqadum to Sudan’s Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces, Abdel Fattah al-Burhan, and Hemetti, urging them to engage in urgent discussions to address the humanitarian crisis and pave the way for a peaceful resolution to the conflict.

While al-Burhan has not responded to the coalition’s request, Taqadum stated that they are in discussions with the military leadership to finalize arrangements for a meeting between the two parties.

Taqaddum leaders believe that this meeting is crucial to facilitate an intra-Sudanese process aimed at restoring a civilian-led transition and paving the way for general elections.

Taqaddum expressed hope that these meetings will lead to concrete steps that alleviate the suffering of the Sudanese people and advance efforts towards a peaceful settlement to the conflict that erupted on April 15.

The coalition underscored the importance of aligning these efforts with regional and international initiatives aimed at halting the conflict, particularly those of the Intergovernmental Authority on Development (IGAD), the African Union (AU), and the Jeddah Platform.
