Uganda’s national netball team, She Cranes, defied all odds to win the Test Series on Saturday.
The triumph came after the She Cranes overcame Wales 59-48 in the decisive game three at the House of Sports in Cardiff to win the three-match series, 2-1 on aggregate.
Despite Wales’ bright start, having won the opening serie on Wednesday (57-45), the hosts were beaten by She Cranes 64-40, in a remarkable comeback to level matters.
During Saturday’s clash, Fred Mugerwa’s charges started on a high note and led 17-12 after the first quarter, with a five goal difference heading into the second.
The Cranes then ran out of steam, however, on return and lost the second quarter 9-13, only to take a one-goal lead into halftime (26-25). It was a different tale in the third, as She Cranes bounced back more stronger and led the third quarter 44-38.
But Wales were much improved on both sides of the ball from Friday’s game, though they will rue the fact they were unable to take full advantage of turnovers in the final third, which often resulted in turnovers of their own.
The team scored an impressive 18-13 and put an icing on the cake in the final quarter, which they won 15-10, to win the final showdown with a difference of 11 goals.
Champions She Cranes will now shift focus on the Vitality Netball Nations Cup, due to take place in England. It has giants New Zealand, Australia, and hosts England.
For Wales players will now focus on the league and domestic action.
