The public has provided valuable leads in the investigation into the shooting death of Pastor Aloysius Bugingo’s driver and bodyguard, Richard Muhumuza, according to Police spokesperson Fred Enanga.
The attack occurred when Muhumuza and Bugingo were traveling in a vehicle, which was shot at over 13 times in Namungoona-Lubaga Division in Kampala city around 9 pm earlier this month. At least 8 bullets were recovered from Muhumuza’s body.
Several weeks ago, the police announced a bounty of Shs 20 million for information leading to the arrest of the suspects involved in the shooting. Enanga now reports that the police have gathered clues regarding the weapons used and potential suspects, thanks to information provided by the public. They are actively pursuing these leads before making any arrests.
Enanga stressed the importance of verifying the credibility of the provided information before taking further action. He assured the public that updates on the progress of the investigation would be communicated.
Previously, forensic experts revealed that the pistol used in Muhumuza’s shooting was the same firearm used in the killing of blogger Isma Olaxes (Isma Tusubira) in May of the previous year near his home in Kyanja, Nakawa Division. However, no suspects have been apprehended in either case.
