Entebbe, Uganda | THE INDEPENDENT | World cross country champion Jacob Kiplimo is set to compete in a 10 km Valencia Road race in Spain on January 14th, 2024.
Kiplimo, who also holds the world record for the 21km and is a double Commonwealth Gold medalist, traveled Thursday and is expected to face formidable competition from renowned athletes such as Rodriguw Kwizera (Burundi), Kenya’s Boniface Kibiwot, Philemon Kiplimo, Jacob Kosgei and Bravin Kipkogei Kiptoo among others.
After an impressive performance and recording a personal best (PB) of 41 minutes and 5 Seconds, during the 15 kilometers Sevens Hills race in Netherlands late November last year, Kiplimo has been training diligently in Kapchorwa under the guidance of his Ugandan coach, Peter Chelangat.
In an interview with Uganda Radio Network, Kiplimo says this competition serves as a season opener and also preparation for the World Cross Country Championships. “I feel prepared and hoping for the best,” says the soft spoken Kiplimo.
His coach Peter Chelangat, emphasized that they have had good preparations leading up to this highly anticipated race. He says this first race for the season which will help Kiplimo gauge his fitness level.
“We have done our part and the remaining is for God,” said the coach.
