A 44-year-old man has been sentenced to 10 years imprisonment by the Kabale-Chief-Magistrates-Court for attempted murder and malicious damage.
Court that was presided over by the Kabale Chief Magistrates Derrick Byamugisha heard Prosecution led by the Kabale Senior State Attorney Julie Najjunju that Samuel Twinamatsiko, on December 26, 2023, while at Rushebeya I Burambira Northern Division Kabale Municipality at around 7 am woke up and begun threatening everyone at home. After a half hour at 8am, he began breaking head lumps and windscreen of motor vehicle registration number Toyota Raum Registration number UAU 039 P, all worth Ugx 2M belonging to Precious Rukundo, her sister.
Court was also told that Twinamatsiko also cut Precious Rukundo on the forehead, sustaining a deep cut wound with attempted murder, contrary to Section 204 of the Penal Code Act (PCA).
Prosecution also told the Court that Twinamatsiko also targeted Rukundo’s head, that would have led to serious consequences like death. On top of that, he threatened the whole family and damaged the property of Rukundo. The violent behavior should not go unpunished. It needs the Court to give him a deterrent sentenced of 20 years, so that he can reform after serving the sentenced.
When the charges were read for him, he pleaded guilty to both counts.
His Worship Byamugisha then said that Twinamatsiko is convicted on his own plea of guilty.
Twinamatsiko told the court that he is remorseful of the acts he did and asked the court that he be given a lenient sentence.
However the Chief Magistrates Derrick Byamugisha while delivering his judgment and sentence, he said that Twinamatsiko didn’t waste courts time. As well, Rukundo and Twinamatsiko are brother and sister, but cases of such nature are rampant in the court jurisdiction, as the act would have led to the death
He then sentenced him to 10 years on the count of attempted murder and 2 years on the count of malicious damage, that he is to serve co-currently.
