Dr. Abiriga praised for valuing integrity and professionalism at work

Masindi, Uganda | THE INDEPENDENT | Local leaders in the West Nile Region and beyond have described the late former Acting Masindi District Health Officer Dr. Jino Abiriga, as a person who valued integrity and professionalism during his work.

Dr. Abiriga was brutally murdered by unknown assailants on Sunday January 7th 2024 at around 2:00am. His lifeless body was discovered by passerby dumped near his gate in Kijura North cell, Central division, Masindi municipality at around 6:00 a.m. with severe wounds on the neck, head and back.

The leaders made the homage on Friday during a Special council sitting and burial ceremony at his ancestral home in Tumvea village, Offude parish Tara sub county in Maracha District.

Phionah Sanyu, the Masindi Chief Administrative Officer said that Abiriga will be remembered as an excellent civil servant, a team player, and a person of high moral integrity

Dicky Alema, the secretary for social services for Maracha district eulogized Abiriga as a generous person who supported the construction of various churches within the district regardless of his religious affiliation.

Stephen Obitre, the LC 5 chairperson of Maracha district described the death of Abiriga as a great loss to the district and the entire West Nile region. He further reiterated that the district will preserve the legacy of Abiriga by completing the unfinished projects that he was implementing within the district.

Emmy Ngabirano, the Masindi Resident District Commissioner, assured the mourners and Abiriga’s relatives of their commitment to bring to book the perpetrators of Abiriga’s murder.

According to Police so far four suspects including Abiriga’s wife, have been apprehended to aid in the ongoing investigation.

Late Dr. Abiriga was born on March 9 1971 in the present day Maracha district in the West Nile region. He attended Offude and Kololo Public Primary schools all in Maracha district before Joining St. Joseph’s College Ombaci in Arua for both O and A’ level. He later joined Mbarara University of Science and Technology and studied medicine.
