Kampala, Uganda | THE INDEPENDENT | Kampala Capital City Authority (KCCA) has introduced the city’s first-ever smart pole street lights, totaling 87, which are anchored on telecom infrastructure and placed around various locations in the city.

Among these, 33 smart pole lights have been deployed along Kololo Hill Drive, 30 along Nile Avenue, and 18 along Nkrumah Road. Additionally, there are grid-powered flood lights installed along various roads, including Kazo Angola Road, Naguru Godown Road, Mengo Market, Naguru Kasenge Remand Home Road, Makerere Kagugube, Namuwongo Green Hill Road, and Kitante Hill Road.

The installation of these lights is part of a collaboration between KCCA and the American Tower Corporation (ATC) under the Authority’s smart city initiative.

Minsa Kabanda, the Minister for Kampala Capital City and Metropolitan Affairs, remarked during the commissioning of the lights that the integration of solar-powered streetlights with telecommunication infrastructure represents a forward-thinking approach aligned with the government’s vision for a modern, sustainable Kampala City.
