The Tanzania Football Federation (TFF) has sacked their head coach Adel Amrouche, hours after the former Harambee Stars tactician was sanctioned by the continental football governing body, CAF.
The Algerian coach made uncalled for remarks, which raised eyebrows during a TV interview before Tanzania’s opening game against Algeria at the ongoing 2023 Africa Cup of Nations tournament in Ivory Coast.
“Currently, the FRMF is a confirmed power in the African football world; in the last match against Morocco, they forced us to play in the evening, when we wanted to play in the early afternoon,” Amrouche commented on an Algerian TV channel.
He further alleged that Morocco is a determinant of everything in African football, which didn’t go well with CAF.
Amrouche made the controversial remarks just days before Tanzania played Morocco, in which opening fixture they lost 3-0.
On Thursday, January 18, 2024, CAF slapped Amrouche with a hefty ban of eight matches, before he was subsequently withdrawn from AFCON.
Yesturday, the Tanzanian Football Federation (TFF) announced sacking Amrouche, adding to his ban by CAF. This was confirmed in an official press statement signed by their Communications Officer, Clifford Mario Ndimbo.
Hemed Morocco will take over the team with immediate effect and will be assisted by Juma Mgunda.
The Taifa Stars will play their second match at the 2023 AFCON Tournament against Zambia.
