The Anti-Corruption Unit apprehended Yumbe district’s senior procurement officer, Kana Taban, and Anule Siraj of Miribe Foundation Limited on the morning of Wednesday, December 20th, 2023, on charges of bribery.
The duo allegedly sought a bribe amounting to Shs 23 million, targeting Obua Emmanuel, the Managing Director of Apogee Logistics Company. This illicit transaction was intended to secure a contract for the construction of the Ibizi Watershed Culvert and the rehabilitation of the 4.3 km Abiriamajo Yangani access road for the fiscal year 2022/2023.
According to the Anti-Corruption Unit’s statement on Wednesday, the Senior Procurement Officer solicited the bribe from Obua Emmanuel. The funds were reportedly channeled through a bank account held in the name of Miribe Foundation Limited, with Anule Siraj, the account signatory, facilitating the withdrawal. Subsequently, the bribe amount was delivered to the Senior Procurement Officer.
Ongoing investigations have led to the recovery of Shs 20 million from the suspects. Both individuals are currently in custody at Arua Central Police Station. The Anti-Corruption Unit continues its efforts to bring clarity to this case and ensure justice is served.
