The world is rooting for Ugandan chef, Dorcus Bashema Kirabo, alias Mama D, as she works around the clock to achieve the Guinness World Record for the longest solo cooking session.
The longest cooking marathon (individual) is 119 hours, 57 minutes and16 seconds and was achieved by Alan Fisher (Ireland) in Matsue, Shimane, Japan, from 28 September to 3 October 2023.
However, Mama D now wants to break the record in Uganda.
The famous chef started her challenge on December 23, 2023 in Kira, Wakiso district.
The cooking session started at 10:00 am. Her target is 121-plus hours to break the current Cookathon record.
By 8:00 am on December 26, Mama D had clocked 61 hours.
“66 hours, 52 minutes and counting,” she tweeted on Boxing Day after recording her 77th meal.
“It is the people like you that keep us going,” she told a group of people who visited her kitchen, adding, “We will not give up till Friday.”
Uganda Tourism Board (UTB) boss, Lilian Arjarova has expressed interest in Mama D’s challenge.
“Tomorrow I will be joining the rest of the people who are supporting Uganda’s Chef Mama D as she attempts to break the Guinness World Record Cookathon,” said Arjarova on Christmas Day.
“See you all in Kira tomorrow,” she tweeted. “Come let’s support and cheer her on.”
