The Makerere University Council has approved the conferment of an honorary doctorate (PhD) upon Justice Frederick Martin Stephen Egonda-Ntende during the upcoming 74th graduation ceremony.

The Makerere Senate, or academic board, recommended to the University Council the bestowal of an Honorary Doctor of Laws (LL. D) degree upon Justice Egonda-Ntende. This recommendation has received the Council’s approval.

The Council acknowledges Justice Egonda-Ntende’s profound impact on legal training and practice, noting his professional achievements and significant contributions to the legal fraternity in Uganda and beyond. His unwavering commitment to justice, coupled with an exceptionally high level of integrity and dedication to service, has been recognized.

Justice Egonda-Ntende is commended for executing his duties as a judge with humility, utmost integrity, and an unwavering commitment to justice and equality, aligning with the principles embedded in the judicial oath. His exceptional accomplishments extend to upholding ethical standards and contributing to the development of the judicial system in Uganda and globally.

Based on these commendable grounds, the Makerere University Council has deemed it fitting to award Justice Egonda-Ntende the Honorary Doctor of Laws, honoris causa, (L.L.D) of Makerere University.

Justice Egonda-Ntende has been invited to participate in Makerere University’s 74th graduation ceremony, where the honorary degree will be conferred upon him on Monday, January 29, 2024. The ceremony is scheduled to take place at Makerere University’s Freedom Square.

By university policy, the award of Honorary Degrees is typically presented in the presence of the awardee, unless exceptional circumstances, as approved by the University Council, dictate otherwise.

This honorary degree represents the highest accolade bestowed by the University, signifying recognition of distinctive achievement that has significantly contributed to knowledge and the betterment of society.
