Authorities in Kisoro District have officially inaugurated John Kale Road in tribute to the late Pan Africanist, Johnson Komuluyange Kalekezi, who is the father of retired army General, Gen. Kale Kayihura.
Spanning 4.5 kilometers, the road stretches from Kyapa Trading Centre in Nyakabande Sub County to Chahi Sub County in Nyakabigo parish, connecting to the Chahafi-Mugaza roundabout.
During the launch at Gen. (Rtd) Kayihura’s residence, Dr. Nsaba Buturo James, the Member of Parliament for Bufumbira East, expressed gratitude as the guest of honor. He pledged to oversee the commencement of construction for the John Kale Institute of Science and Technology (JKIST) starting next year.
Dr. Buturo commended the district administration for its commendable decision to commemorate the contributions of the John Kale family, emphasizing that this legacy would inspire others to excel. He also highlighted the upcoming JKIST project, noting that a delegation from the district would meet with the president in January to seek confirmation.
Gen. (Rtd) Kale Kayihura praised the Kisoro district council for adopting a resolution to establish a lasting memorial for his late father. He emphasized that initiatives like naming roads, places, buildings, and statues after high achievers serve as motivation for younger generations.
Expressing disappointment in those hindering the development of JKIST, Gen. Kale Kayihura stated that the claimed private land is, in fact, public land.
Hajji Badru Mayaja, the Kisoro district Chief Administrative Officer (CAO), and the district Engineer highlighted that John Kale Road was graded using a portion of the government’s road funds, symbolizing appreciation for General Kale Kayihura’s significant contributions to the development of Kisoro District.
