The new Permanent Secretary (PS) at the Office of the Prime Minister (OPM), Mr Dunstan Balaba has started work.

The OPM on Monday announced that Balaba had arrived at his new office in Kampala.

“Ms Rose Alenga, who has been our acting PS, handed over office to Mr Balaba during the weekly meeting of our Technical Committee,” said the OPM in a brief statement.

Balaba is a seasoned civil servant with over 32 years of experience.

Before his recent deployment to the OPM, Balaba was serving as the Chief Administrative Officer for Buikwe District.

Balaba also served as CAO in Mayuge, Tororo and Kabale.

“We warmly welcome our new PS,” said Prime Minister Robinah Nabbanja.

Balaba replaced Keith Muhakanizi who passed away in April 2023.

The OPM has previously faced corruption scandals with Permanent Secretaries being arrested and jailed.

In June, 2023, the Inspectorate of Government (IG) arrested six senior officials of the Office of the Prime Minister (OPM) over abuse of office.
