Kampala, Uganda | THE INDEPENDENT | Uganda’s forthcoming digital census not only promises to revolutionize data collection but also aims to generate over 12,000 employment opportunities for the country’s youth. The nationwide initiative, scheduled for 2024, will leverage digital technologies to gather essential demographic and socio-economic information, with a focus on achieving heightened accuracy and efficiency.

This undertaking holds a dual advantage for the nation. Firstly, it will furnish the government with comprehensive data crucial for shaping policy decisions, resource allocation, and development planning. Simultaneously, it will empower Ugandan youth by providing them with valuable training and temporary employment opportunities.

The 12,000 youths selected for this endeavor will undergo training to operate digital tablets, conduct household interviews, and assist in data collection and processing. This hands-on experience will equip them with valuable skills in technology, communication, and data analysis, enhancing their employability prospects in a swiftly evolving digital landscape.

During the official launch on December 12, 2023, Dr. Albert Byamugisha, UBOS’s Board Chairperson, expressed confidence in executing a census poised to uphold and reinforce Uganda’s modernization goals in alignment with Vision 2040.
