Fort Portal, Uganda | THE INDEPENDENT | Deputy Inspector General of Police, Major General Geoffrey Tumusiime Kasigazi, has called on the people of the Rwenzori region and Uganda as a whole to remain vigilant during the festive season in the wake of an attack on Kamwenge district by suspected ADF rebels. The attack resulted in the tragic death of at least 10 individuals.
Addressing the media in Fort Portal on Wednesday, Major General Kasigazi discussed the recent ADF attacks in the region, highlighting the purpose of his visit to assess the security situation. He revealed that the rebels exploited porous borders along the DRC-Uganda borderline to infiltrate the country and carry out acts of violence.
Kasigazi assured the inhabitants of the region that the police and allied security agencies were actively pursuing the attackers, with the goal of apprehending or neutralizing them.
“We don’t want our people to panic following the attacks. Police and the Army already have the situation under control. We are currently conducting investigations, and although we haven’t arrested the terrorists yet, we are convinced they will be dealt with either in Uganda or DRC within no time,” Kasigazi added.
He urged communities in the Rwenzori region to heighten vigilance in public spaces and encouraged them to collaborate with the police and other security agencies by sharing information to enhance security measures.
