Chinese ICT Project To Employ 10,000 Ugandan Youths

President Yoweri Museveni has supported plans by the China International Telecommunication Construction Corporation to construct a Uganda ICT Park.

“This project is very good. I have got many young people with accounting and auditing skills that are needed internationally. If you can start this business, it is okay. I support you,  ” he said.

The President was last evening meeting with officials from the China International Telecommunication Construction Corporation,  at State House, Nakasero, led by Mr. Liu Peidong. The Minister for ICT Mr. Johnn Nasasira attended the meeting.

The ICT Park will encompass an Ultra Modern Information Industry Integrated Area, National Electronic Strength Strategy, National Electronic Information Industry, Business Process Outsourcing, Internet Data Center, Incubation and Innovation Center.

The facility is expected to create self-employed and self-innovation platforms for young people and entrepreneurs once it is operationalise. An estimated 10,000 Ugandans will access employment opportunities under the project.

The ICT facility’s headquarters will also be constructed to provide office space for the Ministry of Information, Communication and Technology and the National Information Technology Authority.

The project which is expected to cost US$135million will receive funding under the Chinese government concessional loan.

President Museveni noted that the ICT Park once operational, will also in the future, attract big companies to utilize its services. He, therefore, directed that land be given to the company to enable it start operations.

According to its officials, the company is seeking for 50 acres of land to undertake construction of the facility.

Mr. Liu Peidong thanked President Museveni for receiving them and for supporting the plans to construct the Uganda ICT Park
