Tragedy struck Kamwenge district in western Uganda as unknown assailants killed ten people in an attack on Monday evening. The incident occurred in Kyabandara parish, Kamwenge sub-county, where assailants targeted locals in a bar around 10 pm, hacking some to death and abducting others.

Additionally, the attackers set houses ablaze during the assault. Among the victims is the female councilor of Kyanadara parish, known only as ‘Night,’ while the identities of the other victims are yet to be established.

This incident follows last week’s claim by the Uganda People’s Defense Forces (UPDF) of killing two suspected Allied Democratic Forces (ADF) rebels and capturing their commander in the Kibale Forest national park, located in Kamwenge district. Gen Felix Kulayigye, UPDF spokesperson, mentioned that these rebels were part of those who had escaped following the ongoing ‘Shuja’ operation conducted in the neighboring Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC).
