Kampala, Uganda – March 3, 2025 – Makerere University, one of Africa’s premier institutions of higher learning, is inviting applications for two key leadership positions: First Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Academic Affairs) and Second Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Finance and Administration). The appointments are governed by the Universities and Other Tertiary Institutions Act, Cap 262.
Position: First Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Academic Affairs)
The First Deputy Vice-Chancellor will report to the Vice-Chancellor and will be responsible for overseeing academic affairs, including teaching, research, and curriculum development. The successful candidate will provide strategic leadership to enhance Makerere’s academic and professional excellence.
Key Responsibilities:
- Assist the Vice-Chancellor in academic functions and serve as Acting Vice-Chancellor in their absence.
- Oversee curriculum development and review.
- Supervise examination and admission processes.
- Lead research development and collaborations.
Candidate Requirements:
- Hold a Ph.D. and be an associate or full professor.
- Must be a Ugandan citizen aged 40–65 years.
- Have at least five years of academic leadership experience.
- A minimum of 20 peer-reviewed publications and supervision of at least 10 postgraduate students (3 at Ph.D. level).
- Experience in university strategic planning and ICT integration in education.
- Proven ability to secure research funding and lead academic innovation.
Position: Second Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Finance and Administration)
The Second Deputy Vice-Chancellor will oversee financial governance, institutional planning, and human resource management. The successful candidate will ensure efficient financial management and institutional development at Makerere University.
Key Responsibilities:
- Oversee financial planning, budgeting, and institutional development.
- Ensure accountability and compliance with financial regulations.
- Manage human resources, performance appraisals, and faculty development.
- Supervise estate and infrastructure development.
Candidate Requirements:
- Hold a Ph.D. and be an associate or full professor.
- Must be a Ugandan citizen aged 40–65 years.
- At least five years of senior financial or administrative leadership experience.
- Proven ability to mobilize resources and manage large institutional budgets.
- Experience in infrastructure development and stakeholder engagement.
