President Yoweri Museveni is a man whose insatiable lust for power has reduced Uganda to a laughingstock in the region. Once parading himself as a liberator, Museveni has proven to be nothing more than a ruthless, corrupt, and self-obsessed tyrant, shamelessly clinging to the presidency for nearly four decades. Prof. Ogenga Latigo’s bold assertion that Ugandans must collectively push Museveni into retirement exposes a grim reality: this man is not just tired—he is Uganda’s deadweight, dragging the nation into economic ruin and moral decay.

Since seizing power in 1986, Museveni has run Uganda like his personal piggy bank, looting the nation dry while masquerading as a reformer. His so-called “economic achievements” are nothing but a facade to distract from his shameless kleptocracy. Roads crack before completion, healthcare is a death sentence, and schools are breeding grounds for hopelessness—all because Museveni and his cronies prioritize filling their pockets over serving the people. Uganda’s youth, the very future of this nation, are languishing in poverty, joblessness, and despair. Meanwhile, Museveni’s children live like royalty, flaunting stolen wealth with no shame or accountability.

Prof. Latigo is correct: Museveni is a “tired man,” but not just in body—his ideas are obsolete, his vision expired, and his leadership nonexistent. Museveni’s Uganda is a place where dissent is criminalized, where elections are rigged to preserve his rule, and where fear is the currency of governance. He has turned the military into his private security detail, deployed to silence opposition voices and brutalize innocent civilians. His idea of democracy is a cruel joke—a carefully orchestrated fraud designed to legitimize his dictatorship. Every election under his rule has been nothing but a sickening spectacle of intimidation, bribery, and outright theft.

The truth is, Museveni clings to power not to serve Uganda, but to protect himself and his cronies. Retirement terrifies him because it would mean exposure of the grotesque corruption that has defined his regime. Billions of dollars in aid and public funds have vanished into offshore accounts while Ugandans die in dilapidated hospitals or from preventable diseases. Museveni’s legacy is not stability or development—it is a trail of broken promises, shattered dreams, and endless suffering. His refusal to step aside is not just selfish; it is a direct attack on Uganda’s future.

Latigo’s call for collective responsibility is a wake-up call to every Ugandan. The blame for Museveni’s continued reign lies not just with him, but with those who enable him—spineless opposition leaders, compromised civil servants, and citizens too afraid to fight back. Uganda cannot afford to wait for divine intervention or international sympathy. The time to act is now. The youth must rise, the opposition must unite, and civil society must rediscover its backbone. Change will not come through wishful thinking; it will come through relentless, organized resistance.

Museveni’s declaration to run again in 2026 is the ultimate insult to Ugandans. His greed has already stolen 38 years—how much more does he intend to rob? If Museveni truly had an ounce of humanity left, he would step aside and face justice for the countless atrocities committed under his watch. But we know better—he is incapable of shame, incapable of remorse. Museveni is a parasite, and Uganda cannot heal until he is removed, prosecuted, and held accountable for his crimes.

The time for diplomacy is over. Museveni must go, not tomorrow or in 2026, but now. Uganda deserves better than this shameless tyrant.
