Mathias Mpuuga has become the epitome of betrayal and political rot, embodying everything that is wrong with Uganda’s so-called opposition. His latest stunt, the formation of the Democratic Alliance, is nothing but a self-serving charade designed to mask his corruption, treachery, and utter failure as a leader. This desperate move to remain relevant after abandoning the National Unity Platform (NUP) is a shameless act of opportunism that exposes him as a man who cares little for democracy and everything for his personal gain.
Mpuuga’s political career is now a festering wound on the face of Uganda’s opposition. His tenure as Leader of Opposition was littered with accusations of corruption, whispers of secret deals with the NRM, and allegations of betrayal. These suspicions have clung to him like a bad stench, and his new party reeks of the same decay. It is no surprise that Andrew Mwenda has labeled it “dead on arrival.” How could it be anything else when it is led by a man so deeply compromised, so utterly devoid of integrity, that even his staunchest supporters now spit his name with disgust?
Mpuuga’s so-called Democratic Alliance is nothing more than a vanity project, a hollow shell that serves as a monument to his political cowardice. His exit from NUP under a cloud of suspicion has cemented his reputation as a traitor to the opposition. The young, vibrant Ugandans who once believed in his leadership now see him as a snake, a spineless opportunist who abandoned their cause for personal profit. He has no ideology, no vision, and no moral compass to guide this doomed venture.
How does a man accused of secret dealings with the corrupt regime he claims to oppose expect to rally meaningful resistance? Mpuuga’s hands are stained, and his name is irredeemably tarnished. His pathetic attempt to reinvent himself as a political savior is both laughable and offensive. His betrayal is not only a slap in the face of NUP supporters but a dagger plunged into the heart of Uganda’s opposition movement.
Mpuuga exemplifies the worst kind of political parasite, one who leeches off the popularity of movements like NUP only to abandon them at the first sign of trouble. His actions are not those of a leader but of a shameless opportunist willing to sell out his principles—and his people—for a seat at the table. He has single-handedly undermined opposition unity at a time when Uganda desperately needs it. His betrayal only serves Museveni’s interests, further entrenching the dictatorship he pretends to fight against.
The Democratic Alliance is nothing but a coffin for Mpuuga’s political career, hammered together with the nails of betrayal, corruption, and incompetence. Uganda deserves better than this disgraceful excuse for a leader. His party will crumble under the weight of his lies and treachery, leaving nothing behind but the bitter taste of betrayal in the mouths of those who once believed in him. For Mathias Mpuuga, the political road is not just a dead end—it is an unmarked grave.
