One hundred and seventeen trainees have successfully completed a six-month advanced course in communication and technology at the Uganda Peoples’ Defence Forces (UPDF) 5 Infantry Division Headquarters, with a strong call to embrace modern technological advancements.

The Deputy Commander of the 5 Infantry Division, Colonel David Opeero, presided over the passing-out ceremony, emphasising the crucial need to adapt to new technologies.

Col Opeero highlighted the importance of modernising skills, particularly in the fields of cybersecurity and electronic warfare, as he urged personnel in Communication, Information Technology and Signals (CITS) services to stay ahead of the curve in an increasingly digital world. He stressed the necessity of flexibility and adaptability in keeping pace with rapid technological developments.

He also underscored the value of continuous learning, encouraging military personnel to leverage the vast information available online and through other media. Furthermore, Col Opeero called on them to develop skills beyond formal education and to embrace collaboration, noting that collective effort often leads to greater success than working alone.

Major Toyem Geoffrey, Commanding Officer of the 5 Division CITS Regiment, commended the graduates for their dedication throughout the training. He urged them to maintain discipline, uphold strong communication principles, and prioritise their health as the key to future success.

The ceremony was attended by both senior and junior officers of the 5 Infantry Division.
