Anita Among has shown herself to be nothing more than a toxic force within Uganda’s political sphere. Her recent revolting display—a venomous, tribal slur caught on camera—strips away any guise of professionalism and exposes her true colors: a leader motivated not by public good but by shameless divisiveness and self-interest. Among’s comment, telling a fellow MP to “make sure those Baganda don’t get the numbers,” reeks of hatred and arrogance. Such a statement coming from the Speaker is not only shocking but disgraceful, sending waves of anger and disgust throughout the nation.
This wasn’t merely an innocent “slip”—it was a glaring window into Among’s twisted perspective. In her warped world, power isn’t about service or unity but about driving wedges between communities, exploiting her position to stomp on those she deems less worthy. Her shameless remark doesn’t just reveal her disdain for the Baganda; it reveals her utter contempt for the very concept of a united Uganda. And to make matters worse, she has shown zero remorse, continuing her arrogant march as if above the outrage and consequences her words rightfully deserve.
True to his fearless reputation, Lord Mayor Erias Lukwago has stepped forward to challenge this disgraceful show of bigotry. Lukwago’s message was uncompromising, demanding an apology and calling for Among’s resignation should she fail to retract her words. His bold stance brings to light a painful truth: Uganda’s political realm is plagued by divisive leaders who should have no place in public office. Among, with her bloated ego and appetite for chaos, should be at the very top of that list.
The backlash against Among has been fiery and relentless, with Ugandans flocking to social media to voice their outrage. Calls are intensifying for Leader of Opposition Joel Ssenyonyi to begin impeachment proceedings, as the public grows fed up with leaders who sow division for personal gain. The message is clear: Among’s reign of tribal hatred and discord has no place in Uganda. Her brazen disregard for unity has driven people to demand immediate and decisive action to remove her from office before she further pollutes the nation’s political landscape.
This whole debacle erupted during a debate over a deeply controversial bill—one that would place the Uganda Coffee Development Authority (UCDA) under the grossly dysfunctional Ministry of Agriculture, Animal Industry, and Fisheries (MAAIF). Led by the largely ineffective Minister Frank Tumwebaze and his junior ministers, this ministry has been rightly branded as “sick” due to its continuous failures. Yet, while the nation is focused on the mishandling of Uganda’s coffee industry, Among saw an opportunity to exploit her position and incite division for her own twisted reasons.
Anita Among embodies everything wrong with Uganda’s leadership—a monstrous figure who preys on division, thriving on her poisonous rhetoric to keep herself in power. She is no representative of the people but a self-serving tyrant, holding Uganda’s future hostage with every word of hatred she spews. Ugandans are left with a critical question: Will their leaders rise to hold this tribalistic monster accountable, or will they become her silent accomplices?
It’s time for Ugandans to take a stand against this toxic brand of leadership and demand leaders who genuinely value unity. In Anita Among, we see the embodiment of a corrosive, power-hungry leader, dragging the nation down for her own selfish ends.
